MINT-Cluster Töne bei „Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft“

MINT Cluster sounds at „Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft“ (The Night that Creates Knowledge)

At the „Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft“ event on 8 September 2025, the Physics Education Working Group presented the STEM cluster Sounds – with exciting insights into hearing research, workshops and an exhibition on noise cancelling and piano restoration.

On Saturday, 8 September 2025, the Physics Education Working Group represented the regional MINT cluster at the event ‘Die Nacht, die Wissen schafft’ (The Night that Creates Knowledge) in the atrium of the Welfenschloss. From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., interested visitors were able to learn about various projects being carried out by the university and its partners. The STEM cluster Töne was represented by the Physics Education Working Group.

Parts of the travelling exhibition were on display. A display case provided information about the phenomenon of destructive interference and its application in noise-cancelling headphones. Another display case illustrated the process of piano restoration using the example of a piano mechanism. This was supplemented by videos showing this process as well as the installation, removal and tuning of pianos. Visitors were also able to find out about citizen science projects on auditory perception and noise mapping.
