Abstract

In mathematics-related university study programmes, self-study has a special
importance. This gives rise to individual and self-directed learning situations that trigger phases of informal learning within the formal learning contexts of mathematics studies. For a differentiated description of such learning situations, an analysis framework is presented that enables an analysis of the subphases of individual learning actions in a gradual spectrum between formal and informal. Using an exemplary learning situation, the framework presented allows a detailed view of independent learning in mathematics studies and is intended to identify starting points for the promotion of individual, self-directed learning processes.
